It’s going to be an exciting summer on the Withers homestead! This week we’ll be moving some not-so-baby-anymore chicks out of the whelping room to their new coop and run. We should be able to start collecting fresh eggs mid-summer. Maggie has wanted chickens since we got married, so she is enjoying this. The chicks have to move on because we’ll soon need the whelping room for our coming new additions. We have two litters in the works right now.
First, in late June we’re expecting a litter from a pair between Hope and Wulfe. Hope is an experienced mother. This is Wulfe’s first litter to sire. We think this will be a good pairing. There is potential for pups of all colors. We hope Wulfe’s red genes get a chance to shine!
Second, in late July we’re expecting a litter from a pair between Jane and Axel. This is a repeat breeding. These two produced great pups for us last fall and we expect more of the same. (These two seriously need some new pictures)
We look forward to sharing our new additions with you soon!
What are your expectations for the summer?
